Carbon Negative, Climate Positive
We at Kiss the Hippo are proud to be London’s first Carbon Negative coffee brand. What does that mean? We make sure that more CO2 is captured from the environment than is created by our business, resulting in a net positive for the environment.
We’ve achieved this by partnering up with Swiss nonprofit On A Mission, who every quarter help us accurately measure our total CO2 emissions – so that we can offset more carbon through sustainable reforestation efforts all over the globe.

DIRECT TRADE COFFEEWe build strong bonds with our producers by working with them directly, and visiting them at least every 12 months. It’s how we’re able to get the best out of the coffee chain - for our farmers and our guests. -
100% TRANSPARENCY FROM
FARM TO CUPThe world grows more complex by the day, but ethical coffee shouldn’t have to. From farm to cup, you can rely on us to share every step your coffee takes on its journey to you. -
WE BELIEVE IN FAIRER TRADECoffee producers shoulder the heaviest price pressure in this industry, and we think that needs to change. In order to innovate, they need to be compensated. That’s why we’re dedicated to paying double the Fairtrade price for all our coffees. -
DOUBLING DONATIONS FOR WORLD COFFEE RESEARCHThe future of coffee depends on the research we do today. For every kilo of coffee we buy, we donate double the amount that WCR has requested of roasters in the industry.

FIRST CARBON NEUTRAL COFFEE ROASTERY IN THE UKOur Organic Certified Roastery is powered using 100% renewable energy, which means all of our coffees are roasted carbon neutral. -
THE WORLD’S MOST ECO-FRIENDLY ROASTERWe roast all of our coffee using state-of-the-art Loring Smart Roaster. Energy efficient and almost emission free, it’s the most environmentally friendly roaster in its class. -
ORGANIC CERTIFIED ROASTERYOur roastery is Organic Certified by the Soil Association, which has worked to create a more sustainable and transparent food system in Britain and abroad since 1946.

ZERO WASTE POLICYWe work with Too Good To Go to ensure that none of our food is wasted. If not sold, day-end items are donated to local charities. -
TRANSFORMING USED COFFEE GROUNDS INTO BIOFUELCoffee’s lifecycle doesn’t end after it’s brewed. We send all our used coffee grounds to bio-bean to be transformed into advanced biofuels. -
COMPOSTABILITY FIRSTWe prioritise compostability wherever possible - all of our straws, cups, lids, takeaway boxes, and cutlery are 100% compostable, and the rest of our packaging is made from recycled and recyclable material. -
ACCREDITED LIVING WAGE EMPLOYERWe care about all our team members - that’s why Kiss the Hippo pays the living wage to every employee.

PROVIDING KENYAN STUDENTS WITH CLEAN WATERIt’s difficult to study when you’re worried about your drinking water. That’s why we are in the process of building a rainwater-harvesting tank that will provide the Mwambui Secondary School with safe, clean water. -
PROTECTING PERU’S INDIGENOUS LANDSTo celebrate the grand opening of our Fitzrovia cafe, we partnered up with the Rainforest Trust UK and saved 3,280 acres of indigenous land in Peru’s Amazon rainforest. -
SAFEGUARDING THE EL DORADO RESERVE
IN COLOMBIAOn our first anniversary, we donated all of the day’s proceeds to the Rainforest Trust UK - successfully saving 71 acres of endangered rainforest in the world’s most important biodiversity hotspot. -
RAISING LITERACY LEVELS IN THE UKWe partnered with The National Literacy Trust to build a charitable Bookshop in our Cafes. All proceeds help change disadvantaged children’s lives by giving them the literacy skills they need to succeed. -
INNOVATIVE RECYCLING WITH
THE LONDON ZOOWe donate all of our old coffee sacks to the London Zoo, where they are reused as toys, bedding, and enrichment materials for primates. -
PLANTING PLANET-SAVING
TREES IN NEPALFor every single subscription we receive to our organic, compostable coffee pods, we plant a new tree in an innovative ecoforestry project in Nepal in partnership with On a Mission. #KissTheHippoForest
